Step Through the Blue Door on Butcher Row

Whether you are a local resident popping out for a card and a gift or a visitor exploring the medieval heart of Shrewsbury's stunning town centre for the first time, a visit to White Orchard is a must-see stop on your itinerary. Located in the iconic Abbot’s House (est. 1450s), our boutique offers a peaceful, expertly curated shopping experience in one of the UK's most beautiful historic buildings.

Why Include Us in Your Shrewsbury Visit?

  • A Piece of Living History: Our shop is housed in a stunning 15th-century timber-framed Tudor building on Butcher Row, widely considered one of the most photographed streets in England.
  • The Perfect Souvenir or Gift: From Uk made gifts to beautiful women’s accessories and everything in between, we specialise in finding unique treasures you will wish you could find closer to home.
  • A Sanctuary for Shoppers: We pride ourselves on a low-pressure, friendly atmosphere where you can browse at your own pace.
  • Dog-Friendly Boutique: We love meeting your four-legged companions! Well-behaved dogs are always welcome to join you as you shop. Fresh water and treats are always outside the front door when we are open.

How to Find Us

White Orchard is nestled in the most historic quarter of Shrewsbury town centre, surrounded by the town's most famous landmarks. We are open Monday through Saturday 10am to 5pm throughout the year. When we do take planned time off we update our hours on our Google profile and leave a note on the door. We open on Sundays beginning in mid to late-March depending on the weather and are open most Sundays through the rest of the year. On Sundays, we are open 11am to 4pm.

  • From the Prince Rupert Hotel: we are located directly across the road from this historic hotel. If you are a guest, we are your very first stop for a morning browse! Doors open by 10am Monday - Saturday. We open at 11am on Sundays, usually between mid to late-March through the end of the year.
  • From St. Mary’s Church: We are ashort walk from this magnificent church. Once you have visited it, look for the entrance to Butcher Row at the corner next to the purple painted shop front. Follow that cobbled road to the right and you will see Abbots House emerge from behind a large, ancient oak tree (I think it's oak, but don't quote me on that!)
  • From Bear Steps: We are just around the corner from the historic Bear Steps Gallery and Cafe. After you view the stunning art they showcase and have a delicious bite to teat at the cafe, wander around the corner and you will find Abbots House across from the Prince Rupert Hotel.
  • The Scenic Route: While we are accessible via Pride Hill, we recommend taking the more picturesque routes through the historic "shuts", such as Grope Lane or Fish Street, or via St. Mary’s Street to truly enjoy the medieval atmosphere.

Travel & Parking

  • By Train: We are a pleasant 10-minute walk from Shrewsbury Train Station. Simply follow the signs for the town centre and head toward the historic High Street. From there, you'll make a left onto Butcher Row from Pride Hill right next to T H Bakers Jewellers.
  • Park & Ride: For a stress-free visit, we highly recommend the Shrewsbury Park & Ride service (available from Meole Brace, Oxon, and Harlescott).  We use it almost every day and we think it's a good service. It drops you right in the heart of the town, just a short stroll from our door.
  • Parking: The nearest short-stay parking can be found in the multi-story car park or Abbey Foregate car parks. Limited parking for passenger vehicles is available on Fish Street.
